Many customers are still running productive, business critical applications on Entra ID B2C and now face the challenge of moving to its successor, Entra ID External Identities. This transition must be handled carefully to avoid user disruption, operational risk, or changes to established authentication flows.
DEVDEER Identity Mirror, or DIM, enables a simple, reliable, and seamless migration of users from Entra ID B2C to Entra ID External Identities. The migration is performed during live operation, without disrupting users, changing existing user flows, or introducing risk to running systems.
Users continue to interact with applications exactly as they always have. They sign in and manage their profiles through the existing Entra ID B2C experience, while the migration remains completely invisible from their point of view.
DIM is installed directly in the customer’s tenant and integrated into existing B2C user flows. Relevant authentication and profile actions automatically trigger DIM in the background, extending the current setup without adding complexity or additional steps to the user journey.
During this process, DEVDEER Identity Mirror transitions user identities into the new Entra ID External Identities tenant. User accounts are created or updated as needed to ensure data consistency across both tenants. DIM can also emit transition events, allowing applications to update internal databases or trigger related processes as part of the migration.
Once a sufficient number of users has been successfully transitioned and validated, applications are switched to use Entra ID External Identities as the primary identity system. This final step completes the migration smoothly, with no disruption to end users and no interruption to live operations.
